Cheney?

Where the hell is Cheney? You'd expect him to go to the Pope's funeral, wouldn't ya? I just realized, watching last week's West Wing, that I haven't heard a peep about him in a long long time. I think he's dead, but they just haven't told us yet, cause then that would mean Shrub is running the country alone. Eep!

I think they were limited in how many dignitaries they could send to the funeral. Hence no Cheney or Carter. I suspect a limit of 5 (Bush, Laura, Bush Snr, Clinton, Condi). The UK contingent was also 5 (Blair, Booth, Kennedy, Howard, Prince Charles - no Mrs Howard or Camilla, Mrs Kennedy couldn't anyway as she's due this week).

Okay, I get the limited size thing (tho I think Carter shoulda gone...), but also just in regular news stuff? I haven't heard anything from him in a while, and I'm a horrible news junkie. I just went to his homepage (http://www.whitehouse.gov/vicepresident/) and it says that he's been doing things. But I haven't heard diddly. And man, does he look like a slug on the pic on the webpage...

The Irish contingent was 5 too - Mary McAleese (+ hubbie), Bertie Ahern, Mary Harney and Enda Kenney.

There's a report in the Irish Times today that Jimmy Carter was originally asked to attend but then got disinvited as there were others who wanted to travel. It's being denied, of course, but I would have thought that he had some claim to a seat there. Or at least as good a claim as Bush Sr and Clinton.
